Older TGs Wanted for Photo Project

[From Loree Cook-Daniels, LoreeCD@aol.com]

Dear Friends:

On May 1-2, I attended a national conference on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender aging in NYC. . .

I met a photographer there, Penny Coleman, who is documenting older lesbians and gay men in photographs and essays, similar to those done of LGT families as part of the traveling "Love Makes a Family" display. Penny would like to expand her work to include transgendered elders. I talked with her at some length and carefully reviewed the work she had displayed at the conference. I believe she is a careful, creative, and respectful person and that helping her expand her project to include transgendered elders would be a good thing for our community. Of course, such elders MUST be out!! In addition, they should be located somewhere within driving distance of NYC, Penny's base. If you know of anyone who might be interested (she defines "elder" as 55+), or if you'd like to talk to her further about her project, she can be contacted via any of the following means:

Building a Network Concerned with Elders

[From Loree Cook-Daniels, LoreeCD@aol.com]

I am trying to network people nationally who are interested in transgender elder/aging issues. I'm asking people to fill out a two-page questionnaire on how they're working with/researching/connected with transgender elders, what related resources they can make available to others, what kind of help they'd like from others working in this field, and all their contact information. Those who send me a completed questionnaire will be sent photocopies of every other respondent's questionnaire, in order to facilitate networking. If you're interested in this topic or know someone who is, please contact me.

Detective Seeking Information
Regarding Dr. John Brown

[Received from Dallas Denny (aegis@gender.org) via Gender Advocacy Internet News(GAIN)]

From a May 23rd San Diego Union Tribune story by Bill Callahan:

A former San Diego County doctor who served a prison term for bungling a sex-change operation now is charged with murdering a New York man who died of gangrene after his leg was amputated.

John Ronald Brown was ordered held without bail yesterday in a case that has investigators fanning out across the country and Mexico, looking for facts in the grotesque death and clues as to whether others may have been mutilated.

Contact Detective Steve Lindley if you have other information regarding John Ronald Brown and his practice. Detective Lindley is trying to build a case against "Dr. Brown". Detective Lindley also is willing to help persons receive counseling.

Violence & Discrimination Survey
Wants Input

The 1st National Survey of Violence and Discrimination Against Sexual Minorities is currently being distributed by the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. The results will be given to the media, to community service professionals, and to human rights organizations in order to raise awareness about the dangerous prejudice that exists against adults who practice safe, sane and consensual sexual expression.

We all know someone who has been discriminated against or harassed because of their involvement in diverse sexual practices. We're gathering that valuable data with the Violence & Discrimination Survey. Not only are we documenting the fear that keeps people closeted, but we are also getting important demographic information on our community.

We hope with the results from this survey, law enforcement officials will have to listen to the facts about violence taking place against people because of their interest in diverse sexual practices. Please take the time to fill out this short survey, only twelve questions long. If you haven't experienced violence or discrimination, count yourself very lucky, and fill out the form anyway. We are trying to gather an accurate picture of the state of our community.

Complete anonymity is guaranteed - you don't give your name or contact information anywhere on the survey. The 1st National Violence & Discrimination Survey is available in an electronic format on the NCSF website, as well as a download version: http://members.aol.com/NCSFreedom/Survey.html Or you can ask for an e-mail text version by writing to NCSFreedom@aol.com

Thank you to everyone who takes a few moments to help us with this important survey.

   .    .    .

The National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF) participates in changing public policy and laws that prejudice society against individuals because of their diverse sexual and affectional practices. NCSF is a voluntary not-for-profit association and offers a free membership to individuals and organizations who support the rights of adults to engage in safe and consensual sexual expression.
